Why Do I Love Astronomy?

Dark skies, the stars, the moon, the planets, and the shooting stars,
No one has ever left himself not asking why stars glimmer at night. No one has ever ignored the beauty of the moon, or the caress of the moonlight. No one has overlooked the falling stars, or the wonders of the night skies.
And now there comes the question: WHY DO I LOVE ASTRONOMY? And my answer?
I simply love Astronomy because it answers all my questions. It helps me get informed. It helps me fathom what lies behind that black, glittered blanket that covers the skies. Moreover, the bounds of Astronomy is a labyrinth: it is about the day sky, the night sky, the Earth and its companion, the moon and the our world’s other neighbors, the solar system, the galaxies, and the universe. Furthermore, it is about the beginning, the present, the future and the END.

Astronomy is a puzzle that would keep you thinking for a lifetime.

Darren Bautista
BS Materials Engineering
I love astronomy because I am a wanderer (wonderer) =))

Rangel Daroya
BS Electronics and Communications Engineering
I love astronomy because Astronomy makes me see the world beyond :>

Nick Joaquin Rapadas
BS Materials Engineering
Astronomy makes everything dwarf in comparison.

Kimver Louie Nuñez
BS Chemical Engineering
Astronomy for me is the awesome way of seeing the "bigger picture".

Marc Mapalo
BS Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
I love astronomy because I'm fascinated by the things outside the Earth especially the other planets.

The vastness of the celestial sphere in relation to man, and the mystery of the universe (much of it is still unknown) makes astronomy a very interesting field. Our history is deeply entwined with it. yet we can only grasp a small portion of it and simply be awed. For me, the universe is filled with yet-to-be-uncovered surprising stories. Simply by looking up when the night is clear and cloudless, with the aid of a good-quality telescope and in the company of friends, is a quick and easy way to relax and enjoy. I love astronomy!

Manuel Christian "Chris" Schuldes
BS Library and Information Science

"Why do I love astronomy?"

'Cause I can and since I am attracted to everything that has mass (due to newton's universal law of gravitation), especially celestial bodies considering how massive stars and planets are, might as well give myself a slight push and love it instead.

But to sound more serious and less nerdy, because the deepness of space simply sucks me in; maybe not physically, but both mentally and spiritually and all the other -uallies i can presently not think of. Astronomy is just plain beautiful to me.

Carlo Ray “CR” Selabao
BS Mechanical Engineering

The universe fascinates me since I was young. At that time I was really curious about how wide the universe is. I even have my own young speculations. Now, I'm glad to be a part of UP Astrosoc where we don't just appreciate the heavens or the universe but go beyond appreciation. :)

Benjamin "Benj" Rodriguez
BS Biology
Science and learning had always been integral to the formative years of this peculiar and curious teenager named Benjamin Rodriguez. That includes astronomy. Especially astronomy. Sure everybody says they wanna be astronauts when they grow up, but everybody outgrows that. Not Benj. Still believing that someday space sci fi's become realistic and terraformed planets are the norm (go google), he busies himself gaining the knowledge and earning skills skills skills from the University of the Philippines in Diliman. And oh, he wishes that the Philippines' scientific and astronomical agencies become more technologically advanced and prestigious than those from the West someday.

So yeah... why does he love astronomy? He just does.

Being alone in the dark while looking high up above in the night sky can somehow make my gears shift a little and it lets me view the universe in a slightly different angle. By looking up, my feet tend to stay put on the ground - it humbles me and it makes me more human. The fascinating thing about Astronomy is that it lets us take a peek into our past and into what lies beyond our future. To sum it all up, Astronomy is just plain amazing!

Juan Carlos “JC” Caldo
BS Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management
Astronomy is really fascinating because we still don't know everything about it. We don't know if there are other races in our vast universe. It really does intrigue me if we are really not alone. I love astronomy. Need I say more?

Mark Ashley “Ash” dela Rosa
BS Applied Physics

I love astronomy because even though we are just small beings in this huge universe, it gives us the feeling that we are very special because we are living in the only planet that can host life, so far. Also, the element of mystery in what is there in the outer space gives thrill and stirs my curiosity. It’s nice to think about what immense force or energy have created the universe and how it is being sustained all this time.
