The Much Awaited Higgs Boson Discovery

The search for the elusive and mysterious particle, the Higgs boson, may be finally over. Wednesday, July 4, 2012, Large Hadron Collider (LHC) particle accelerator scientists reported the results leading to the discovery of the particle at the conference held at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, CERN located near Geneva.
The results that were presented during the conference were only preliminary but the data that have been collected are satisfactorily consistent and these data are leading to the confirmation of the particle although the data gathered in 2012 are yet to be analyzed.
The particle Higgs boson is the missing particle from the “standard model” of the elementary particles that could possibly explain the nature of mass or why matter has mass.
